BlackSwan

On Mondays I am usually a zombie .Mainly because I pack my weekends as much as I can and end up with a sleepy , worn out Monday morning and usually with shoulder and wrist pain. Canon 5D , 70-200mm and the speed light weighs around 7 lbs and thats a heavy necklace 🙂 Out of the 2000 pics ,1000 are deleted right away , 300 were pretty decent,50 good ones and few great ones which makes me do the same thing next weekend. Here is my favorite from the weekend .I think I wasted a lot of time staring at this picture 😉 Shoot for a fantastic designer Palmans and my model looks perfect in this as well. Reminds me of a Black Swan even though I am yet to see one 🙂

I wish I could change two things in the picture . One , to place her a little far away to get few more feet of ground in front of her .Also to fix her posture to have the shoulder a bit more leveled . Thought a lot about cropping the picture to place her in the center of the frame and decided against it . I rarely place the subjects in the middle but this is a case whether it could actually work.A better view in 500px.

Second Life

At one point of time I used to think too much about death .Now I have quit . Could that be the end of everything or a new beginning. Might be a transition to another dimension which we cannot perceive or could be the complete annihilation . Whenever I think of death the movie Contact comes to my mind. One of my all time favorite movies and some of the scenes keeps replaying in my head all the time. Her travel through the worm hole and the reunion with her father . Thats what I hope death would be .This picture was an editorial for Malayali Magazine . My plan was to take a multiple exposure single shoot . But the image didn’t turn out as I wanted . I wanted the body of the girl to be seen perfectly and hence tried a composite shot.I think it looks decent 😉

Happy Diwali

I think the extreme southern part of India , might be the least enthusiastic when it comes to celebrating Diwali . And for someone like me who hails from the mid Kerala , Diwali (we call it Deepawali) was just a holiday .There were no sweets , no festive attire , no firecrackers .It was a perfectly silent holiday for nothing .

My name happened to be Deepa(trust me not my choice). I think my parents want me to be the light of the home (I guess) 😛 . My brother and sister’s name starts with Deepa too, what a coincidence 😉 . And as a kid I just hated Deepawali. Let me try to explain why. ‘Wali’ in my language can have two meanings .One meaning ‘to pull’ and my friends used to pull both my hands from opposite directions just to celebrate Deepa-wali . Well I didn’t like it but I didn’t hate it too 😉

Now the real reason why I hated Deepawali . Those who share my mother tongue also knows that ‘Wali’ means ‘fart’ in colloquial Malayalam. Do I need to write any more ? I still remember the two chubby boys (I am not disclosing the names are they are now neither chubby nor boys) used to run around me shouting Deepa-wali , Deepa-wali .Aaarghhh!!! 😕 Anyway , I am past the stage and now I know how relieving , therapeutic a fart can be . I shouldn’t be writing about fart on Diwali. Lets hope the goddess of light forgives . But thats my story.

A Late Love Note ♥

Public Display of Affection aka PDA  done in the most subtle manner does wonders to any relationship, I hope .So a late note to my cheeky geeky a day after his birthday . I joke to him all the time saying my autobiography will be titled “A Geek’s Wife” 😀 With each passing year I think my mindless viewfinder is getting clearer to appreciate this meekly – geeky guy , who believes in a simple life , is a minimalist with a super active mind and a hyper active brain . I can already see our retirement life with lots of movies , books , travel and soups .Husbands are a pain (most of the times..sigh) but at the end of the day it feels good to have one to call ‘Husband’. Happy Birthday ! 🙂 My fav pic of Arun .. ♥

M&M – Autumn

This is one season when I am really thankful that I live in this part of the world.Since 2006 I have been stocking up on M&M’s fall pictures . So here is the best from this year. They are growing camera averse and after reviewing pictures they usually add the disclaimer ‘Please don’t post this anywhere without our permission’. So mommy’s job is getting tougher 🙂

This first picture is gonna be my wallpaper for a while . Took them out from two different pictures and stitched together as Appu kept on making weird faces and he has this habit on syncing his blink with the click.The background dreamy effect (high contrast, high saturation ,  more gaussian blur) got added in post while the foreground is ‘almost’ intact 😀 Love this picture of Mimi and her MiniMe Maya! I edited out a bunch of people .Can you spot the patch ? 😛 He still poses for Mom even though he doesn’t like . Hope that stays like that for some more years 🙂 Another pile to my memory box ! Not bad for a large Hawaiian Pizza 🙂

Golden Hour

This is an outdoor photographer’s favorite time of the day . The soft, diffused light create such warmth and  is very flattering on all models.And sadly in the part of the world where I shoot this last only for 5-10 minutes . So I am out mostly during this time , keeping my hands steady ( as I rarely carry my tripod) , keeping ISO low and exposure nice and long. There is even a calculator to find the golden hour. And I think in this picture the light , color , angle and beauty blended perfectly.I wish every one of my shot turned out like this one 😉 ❤ Deewana hoon main dhoop ka ❤ ♬♬🎶

Senior Portraits — again!

This time a male model ! 🙂 Last minute senior sessions are kinda over and these kids were born right infornt of camera and certainly know how to pose . Shoulders are little swollen with all the editing .But the energy of Anoushka Shankar’s Red Sun is helping.
